I’ve been deep into a remodeling project at home and it has taken up most of my time and energy.

I have added a “reviews” tab to the products in my online store. Now when you purchase art from me you can leave a review in my store, to let people know what you think about the artwork, the quality of the prints, the delivery time, suggestions you might have, etc.. I fixed some text colors around the site, also – some text was not showing properly on the screen.

During remodeling breaks I have been working on a small painting of the Old Mill, located in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee. I mentioned it in my last post. It’s 8×10, acrylics on a canvas board. It appears somewhat impressionistic to me at the moment. I add more details as the painting progresses. Here’s a sample of it so far. I believe this mill has probably been painted thousands of times. This one is mine, showing the mill before all of the larger buildings were built up around it.

The previous two weekends were spent in downtown Racine, Wisconsin, checking out the art galleries and shops. Racine is an art hub. There is a huge artist community here. My wife and I visited some galleries, and I talked to someone at a co-op gallery about joining. I have their paperwork in hand and will follow through once the remodel is out of the way. Also, that same day, my wife and I visited a glass blowing shop downtown called “Hot Shop Glass”. I love colored glass, so I purchased a purple sandblasted ornament to hang in my studio window. They hold glass blowing classes there. I plan to pay them another visit soon.

On Saturday, April 29th, my wife and I attended the 16th Street Studios Open House, in Racine, which was inspiring and enjoyable. It’s an immense historical industrial building (built in 1865) converted into art spaces. Four sprawling floors of artists’ studios and art stores — pottery, paintings, sculptures, photography, sewing. There’s a lot there. You can roam the halls and into the personal studios of dozens of artists, ask questions, and purchase their works.
