ACEO: Art Cards, Editions, and Originals. I Have ‘Em!

I’ve painted a dozen ACEO trading cards over the past couple of weeks and have listed them in my eBay store. ACEO stands for “Art Cards, Editions, and Originals”. These are tiny collectible paintings, 2.5″ x 3.5″ in size. Art collectors buy them and trade them and collect them in protective card binders, much like baseball cards, and it allows a more affordable way for people to own original artworks from their favorite artists.

At this time, my tiny cards are the original art, not reprints (some artists also sell print cards), and the particular cards I have listed at the time of this post are all painted in watercolor on 140 lb, 300g, cold press watercolor paper. Each card is hand-signed and dated on the back, varnished with cold wax medium and protected in a clear plastic trading card sleeve. I offer free shipping.

Some of the cards currently listed on eBay are a cat on a fence post, a clutch of mourning doves on the peak of a roof, an Emperor moth, a hanging birdhouse, a raven perched upon a gravestone, a honeybee, a tomato hornworm, an archtop guitar, and a cute squirrel hugging a tree. I listed a card of a beautiful blue and orange Cichlid (fish) also, but it sold within a few minutes of me listing it (thank you so much to the Buyer). I’ll have to paint some different fish cards.

In the future I’d like to render some cards in pencils, inks, or gouache, as well. It had been a long time since I have painted with traditional transparent watercolors, so the small size of these cards makes them ideal for dipping my toes back into those painting techniques. It’s been challenging, good practice, and a lot of fun creating them.

Check out all of my eBay listings and own a piece of original artwork, created by me. Collect several! You can also purchase greeting cards and wall prints of my art in my online print store.
